What is GSE BentoLiner®?
A geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) is a manufactured hydraulic barrier used in containment applications as an alternative to traditional compacted clay liners (CCL). GSE BentoLiner® GCL products consist of two layers of geotextiles encompassing a uniform layer of sodium bentonite.
Fibres from the upper non-woven geotextile are needle-punched through the bentonite and incorporated into the lower geotextile (woven or scrim non-woven). This creates a strong mechanical bond that significantly increases the internal shear resistance of the GCL.
When hydrated under confinement, the bentonite clay swells to form a low-permeability barrier with hydraulic conductivity of < 5 × 10⁻⁹ cm/s — equivalent to approximately 1 metre of compacted clay, but in a fraction of the thickness.
